HKS SLD Product Description

Removes the speed limiter that activates at 180 km/h

Most Japanese cars are equipped with a speed limiter function, which cuts off fuel supply above 180 km/h (140 km/h for kei cars) to prevent exceeding that speed.

On the other hand, recent Japanese cars have become more powerful, and even non-sports models have the capability to reach speeds of 180 km/h (140 km/h for kei cars) or more.

Therefore, during circuit driving, the speed limiter is more likely to activate.

SLD (Speed Limiter Release Device) is a device that disables this speed limiter function, allowing the vehicle to fully utilize its performance and enabling driving at speeds of 180 km/h (140 km/h for kei cars) or more.

CAN Communication Equipped Vehicle Compatible, Speed Limiter Release Device

■CAN Communication Compatible

Unlike typical vehicles, the SE3P, Z33, etc., do not have a general vehicle speed signal. Vehicle speed is controlled by a "CAN communication system (*1)," and a system that makes it difficult to easily disable the speed limiter is employed.

The "SLD type III" is a completely new speed limiter removal device that analyzes vehicle-specific speed information from CAN communication and controls the vehicle speed data within the CAN communication.

■ Advantages of Aftermarket Installation

Because it does not rewrite the information of the genuine ECU, the speed limiter can be easily removed without changing the genuine ECU.

HKS has independently analyzed CAN communication and made it possible to remove the speed limiter by manipulating only the vehicle speed signal from the signals included in the CAN communication.

Furthermore, its unique CAN communication operation method makes it possible to display speeds of 180 km/h or higher on the vehicle's digital speedometer.

Because it is installed on the ECU harness, the speed limiter removal function will remain functional even if the ECU program is rewritten.

*1 CAN (Controller Area Network) communication is a high-speed, high-reliability in-vehicle communication system unified by international standards. It communicates data between engine control, drivetrain control, and meters.

In addition to vehicle speed data, it also controls electrical equipment, etc.

This allows for significant simplification of the wiring harness (only 2 wires) and comprehensive control.

It is already widely used in European cars and is being adopted in various Japanese domestic cars, and is likely to become the mainstream in the future.
